Storms Freaks

Rant: Storm Freaks; I've lived in New England most of my life and there is one thing that happens every year we get STORMS! In the winter blizzards, Nor Easters, and in the summer you get the after effects of hurricanes, so... wind and rain.  The part I'm misunderstanding is that for some reason when these storms come everyone flips their lid!

In the past twenty eight years we've had only three real hurricanes and those weren't much of anything when compared with a good snow, or ice storm.  Not that we shouldn't be prepared for these storms but why is it front page news?  For almost a week this hurricane has been front page news and the primary topic on television.   I just think that people get way to excited.  Running out and buying the store out of batteries, water, you name it.

People who live on the coast and coastal regions should be careful and prepare for the storm people inland should secure things that might break loose and flow away. Make sure you have essential supplies but these are things people who live here should own anyway.  When the power goes out, yes I said when not if,  you are going to need flashlights typical supplies.  So I just wonder why do people have to be in such a fervor?

The Real World:  Working, working, working.  Another 12 hour day followed by grocery shopping.  I know what you're thinking how exciting!  Came home now sitting on the couch before bed. Back to work in a few hours.

Lessons from Poe:  "That which you mistake for madness is but an over-acuteness of the senses."- Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  Nothing, very boring.

Writings:  Haven't been typing added a few more pages of notes in my notebook haven't typed them. So no way to count the new words.

Rant-less

Rant: Rant-less, drawing a complete blank.

The Real World:  Worked a short 8 1/2 hour day then had to go to the dentist for my tooth that had been hurting.  Unfortunately the tooth looks like it needs a ROOT CANAL!  Eek!  Not looking forward to that.

Lessons from Poe:  "Science has not yet taught us if madness is or is not the sublimity of the intelligence."- Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  Painting and SVU getting closer to completing my Valkyrie commission.

Writings:  Minor changes to the story not a big word increase.

The Movies

Rant: Movies; Why is it that fewer and fewer movies are any good?  Don't get me wrong I like the occasional shoot 'em up blow 'em flicks.  But where are the great movies?  More and more sequels, prequels, remakes, or re-imaginings.  Less and less originality.

Now let me say this, there are thousands of novels out there, stories that can be turned to the big screen.  I know, I know books should be read to see the world as the author shows you not what the directer shows.  Just listen, how many people read the twilight books after seeing the movie?  How many people went out and picked up J.R.R Tolkien's epic Lord of the Rings?  Or Harry Potter?  Think of it, what's your favorite novel?  Now what if they made a movie a well done movie of it?

I personally can think of a hundred books that could have well done translation.  This isn't to say that creative new movies shouldn't be created. I just wish that new movies would be better.

The Real World:  Yay! It's Monday and another 12 hour day woohoo I love it, lots of work.  Came home and worked on my commission painting.

Lessons from Poe: "To elevate the soul, poetry is necessary."  - Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  The lack of financial funds has left me home-bound and the Law and Order: SVU continues.  Also dentist appointment tomorrow not looking forward to it.

Writings:  Worked on my painting this evening so no progress on my story, however took some notes

Laziness

Rant: Laziness, does it irk anyone else when you go to work, spend hours and hours prepping work so that the next shift can come in and make their shift that much easier.  Then to wake up go to work only to find that they couldn't even complete that.  That only four hours of work had been completed in twelve.  It gets under my skin, working trying to get our work out.

The biggest issue I have is that the powers that be don't seem to care that work is done lazily, or just plain wrong. Nothing ever gets done issues still go on.  I just wish that fair was fair.  If you're going to be paid a wage you should put in a decent amount of work.

The Real World:  I worked a decent 10 hour shift today giving me a total of 76 hours this week.  Not to shabby.  But this week medical bills are due, payment for car maintenance, phone bills....bills, bills, bills. Oh how I hate those stinking bills.  Don't you love those little presents they send you each and every month.

Lessons from Poe: "There is no exquisite beauty… without some strangeness in the proportion." Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  After getting home continued my sitting.  Not enough money, not enough gas.  Feeling sleep deprived so didn't think it was a wise idea to paint.

Writings:  Spent a good amount of time writing this evening.  Got a good start tonight hit the ground running.  Took the time to re-write what I had so far making it a little more coherent then expanded here and there the story is flushing out quite nicely.

Rights

Rant:  Bigotry, why does this country not learn from it's past?  It seems that we are doomed to repeat history over and over and over again.  The other day I saw a woman protesting gay marriage, not a white woman an African american woman.  Don't you see the problem with this!?

Ok let me explain this, first slaves were not allowed to marry, also in many states African Americans couldn't marry whites.  She was also a woman and guess who was last to receive equal rights?  Wait for it.... Oh yeah women.  So this African American woman who a few decades earlier would have the kind of rights that homosexuals have now.  So isn't that the proverbial pot talking to a certain kettle?

People need to wake up and realize that their hatred can't be used to stop people from attaining equal rights under the law.  This country was built for equality yet every single race, religion, sex, as well as sexual orientation needs to fight to get those rights?  That's just straight ignorant.  I think if we all take a step back away from the situation and imagine that the person we are isn't considered equal how that would be.  Be told where you can and can't go.  Told who you can and can't fall in love with.  These are simple things.

If you think it's hurting your religion then maybe you should go read your Bible.  It teaches tolerance, forgiveness and most importantly NOT TO JUDGE!  Until you are as perfect as God, until you have NO sin! Thou shall not judge less ye be judged.  Don't look at a speck in your brothers eye, until you remove the plank from your own eye.

I'm not anti-religion I just believe that you make your own choices.  And you don't live someone else's lives.  You need to stop making judgments and live your own life.  Bigotry is rampant and I hope that someday we can learn from our past and live together.

The Real World:  Saturday worked 12 hours got a good amount of work caught up. Afterword got a phone call out of the blue from my brother, who was mysteriously here and at a party with some people I grew up with yet had not seen in a long time.  So after a long day not feeling too energetic I decided to make an appearance.  Which was good, it was nice to see that life in my ole' neighborhood is still alive and well.

Lessons from Poe:  "It is by no means an irrational fancy that, in a future existence, we shall look upon what we think our present existence, as a dream." Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  Ugly Americans, and SVU marathon lots of tv this evening.

Taxes

Rant:  The media wants me to pay more taxes, while making sure that the rich get tax breaks and pay a minute amount.  They think we aren't poor enough because ninety nine percent of us have a refrigerator.  Really you think that a fridge is such an amenity?  Who is Fox News target audience?  Do they just not listen to whatever they say not even think about what they say?  Because it seems to me that in one breath they want to have you in their fold then next sentence tell you how dumb you are.  It doesn't make sense it hurts my head to think of it.

The Real World:  Worked a 10 hour shift then came home to sit on my couch.  Ahhh... sleepy

Lessons from Poe: "I was never really insane except upon occasions when my heart was touched." Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  Nothing much going on today vegging out.

Writings:  Worked on compiling the information I have so far.  Thinking that I'm going to work out a history of my alternate universe.  Not to the extent of Tolkien or Herbert, but with the information of a written history I'd have the information to pull from much more clearly.  352 words written so far.

Skill Gaps

Rant: "Skill Gap" US employers are complaining that there is a skill gap with qualified workers.  REALLY!?! No way! Get out of here! So you decide to cut workers with skill in order to hire those without skill as temps with no insurance.   Leaving skilled workers out of work, and when applicants apply those with skill are culled out due to the fact that they expect to be paid for their work.

So there is no skill gap, employers just need to realize that skilled labor requires a decent paycheck.  It's insulting thinking that a master electrician or carpenter, who gets laid off should have to go back to work and ear almost minimum wage.  You want skill PAY for it.

The Real World: Short day at work followed by shopping and then home.  Short on cash so no trip to Game Geeks my local nerd store. So I settled for working on some commission work I'm painting for a friend.  Two more models are completed with two left near completion.

Lessons from Poe: "Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." - Edgar Allen Poe

Other:  Not too much else going on watching a lot of television.  Draft Blogger was down so now I'm up late again.  Tired very tired.

Writings:  Took tonight to copy the information I was working on into a word document.  So nothing new to report.

Crazy People

Rant:  Violence due to media.  DOES NOT EXIST! In a recent news story a man attacked a women in her home and assaulted her by attempting to drink her blood. News attributed the attack to vampirism in the media.  Yes you know all the Anne Rice readers are clambering to kill. Your girlfriend is going to drink your blood watch out!  Get her in the sunlight she might sparkle.

Why don't people realize that no matter what crazies are crazy. Grand Theft Auto doesn't have people out murdering bystanders, and listening to Marilyn Manson does not make you go slaughter innocent animals in a satanic cult.

Think of all of the material out there no matter what there is, someone probably finds it offensive.  Think on this after the September 11th 2001 in the rubbish were two metal cross-braces melded into what most see as a cross and the Atheist's said they don't want it displayed at the new World Trade Center building.  Why because they find it offensive to them.

SO let me say one thing Crazies are Crazy!

The Real World:  Yet another 7am to 7:30 pm shift gotta love working!
I started listening to Phillip Pullman's "Amber Spyglass" the last book in "His Dark Materials" trilogy.

Lessons from Poe:  I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity. Edgar Allan Poe

Other:  Nothing Much going on this evening short on cash so I won't be going out tomorrow with climbing gas prices it makes it hard to rationalize fun trips.

Writings:  Since I stopped putting my ideas on my page I haven't written much as it would require more time and I have been keeping this updated daily.  But I have decided to work for at least five to ten minutes everynight and I will write updates and frustrations that I have.  I wish I could write it here but I have no control so....

Sleepless

So I am extremely tired, and I won't keep you long.  I finished Cherie Priest's second Clockwork Century book "Clementine".   I must say she is a very entertaining author and one of the best if not the best steam-punk author.  I highly recommend you read some of her writing.

On a side note I have decided to not put my ideas up anymore as I looked into copyrighting the material and I do not have the finances at this time to afford it.  Who knows maybe by the time I have it partially done I can copyright it and put it up for opinions.  For this saddens me.  A nightly writing of things that are going on in my head will continue then.  And I have decided to take a few ideas from Cherie Priest's blog site.

The Real World: I work a LOT today another 7am to 7:30 pm shift
But as a bonus I did manage to listen to a complete audio-book while I worked. "Clementine" Up next is the third book in Cherie Priest's series "Dreadnought"

Lessons from Poe:  I have great faith in fools; self-confidence my friends call it. Edgar Allan Poe

Other: I am extremely tired and sleep must now consume my being to awaken another day.

Rant: Why is it they people who are known to have their conversations taped change their opinions every time the wind blows not realizing that we can just hit rewind and see their stupidity.

Story Update and Gaimen

So it's late and I promised to update daily so I'll be quick as I need to be in bed.

In what we all the United States of America a different landscape has evolved the north used a chemical created by a mad scientist it was supposed to slow their steam engines eating away at Papin' chemical overloading the steam engine.  It had a side effect every living thing died the reaction of the two chemicals spread out eating away at the nutrients in the soil thus destroying the ecosystem of most of the south.  the southern wastes are now in their place.

The aftermath of the war lead to the north taking over entire continent.  The United Western Federation, UWF, now controls what we know of as canada, united states, and most of the livable part of mexico.

A little more into my Sci-Fi Story;

It will take your scientist a long time to understand just what is here but given time you will find it, you will understand. This will be almost considered heresy if your civilization follows the same line as ours but it is truth. The laws as you have learned do exist but the laws of space are extraordinary and can be bent allowing for traveling extreme distances in the blink of an eye as it would seem.    Through extensive wars, including nuclear, acid, chemical warfare you name it the landscape of U7E3 was ravaged. Once we made it to U7M4 the next planet in your system we began eating Seta alive, mining it for all the minerals we could stripping it of water, and any other natural resource we could find. Soon it began to die. We moved forward to U7J5 the next planet in the system here on one of the moons orbiting we made another establishment venturing ever outward out of our system here we found the technology you have before you. The “Gate” once we learned how to build and operate opened us to the Galactic Trade Union, more commonly known as the Galactic Syndicate.

Well there is a little more into my mind...

On the other side I'm reading Neil Gaimen's The Graveyard Book and I  must say this man knows how to write.  After seeing Coraline I hope that this is the next claymation movie amazing.  I strongly recommend this book to anyone it's a short read but well worth it.

Invigorated

    So continuing where I left off with my retro futurism Steam-punk story;

After Richard Trevithick's introduction of the high pressured steam engine numerous inventors and scientists began to utilize the amazing power of steam.  In 1850 a young scientist James Papin, discovered a new fuel buried under the alps.  This new fuel burned at a much lower temperature yet still boiled the water allowing a much smaller boiler, recycling water much faster than a large engine as we might think.

This advent allowed for the creation of powerful metal machines spread throughout the globe with countries like Germany, France, England, China, India, Ottoman Empire, Africa's, America, and Brazil leading in the creation of these technology.

    And a little more into my Science Fiction story;

GSY 20758 - We regret our depletion of the U7E3, also known as Seta, the world you are on now. The reestablishment of life on Seta may be another hundred million years but with the recent rejuvenation of the G2V star there will be life again.

In direct defiance with order seven alpha sig I leave this isolated chamber deep below the polar ice cap which will survive the primordial jump start this desolate rock is about to receive. I do this so that you may find this information and find your way into the galactic star system faster than we did, by doing so you may save your world and your species will not need to transform as we did to survive and thrive.

So there is a little more into the ideas. I think this is a good way for me to vent.  I feel very invigorated.

Writers Block

I haven't been writing due to a bunch of really dumb reasons.  For one when I started this it was a way for me to vent some things that frustrated me, but my ulterior motive was to get practice for my writing.  I have a ton of different ideas and I've always wanted to write.  If only I could organize the aberrant thoughts that stream through my head.

I tried buying a notebook and keeping it with me at all times, which has helped but the work I do doesn't really give me the time I would like.  I keep starting different story ideas then abandoning them.

So I have made up my mind even if no one reads this ever I am going to try and write about something every night for five or ten minutes.  So bear with me anyone out there who cares what I say.

I've gotten quite interested in the world of Dystopian Steam-punk.  With some amazing artist's out there and with the works of Cherie Priest.  Her Clockwork Century run is very interesting use of science fiction and retro-futurism.  I've had an idea running in my head for some time now about a world in which the events leading to the world wars had been much different, with countries utilizing mechanical devises along with a scourge that if breathed in causing massive respiratory problems similar to tuberculosis and using simple masks it could be avoided.  With multiple countries and factions vying for control of the global economy and collection of a special oil which grants great power to the mechanical monstrosities.  Think world war two on crack.

Another venue I have massive interest in is science fiction.  Much thanks to my favorite author Arthur C. Clark and his numerous science fiction based realities.  I like the idea of things that are unbelievable but not so far stretched that they are conceivable.  In the story I have started using technology found at the bottom of the Marianas trench from a past civilization that had ruled earth.  In which a lot of technology was found and used to create the things we use today as well as new discoveries that the research team who found them are still discovering to this day.  And the great grandson of the original discovery using the technology to find a way to tear space using this to connect to other similar devices. Think star-gate but on the scale of ships.  Numerous accidents transferring through the essential worm hole happen.  I am a good way into this one but I took a step back.  Now I think I'm going to write a history of the finding, originally it was a chapter from the perspective of the great grandson and It just feels rushed maybe once I have the entire idea out then I will be able to better shorten it.  Or maybe I could just turn it into a novella.

Well this is my first rant about...myself, If you made it this far wow I appreciate it.  Any feedback would be nice.
